Welcome to Camp # 1817

We are located in Blountville, in Northeast Tennessee, and are proud members of  the Tennessee Division, as well as part of the rapidly growing East Tennessee Brigade.

When the idea of forming a new Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp in Blountville, Tennessee first surfaced, our founding members wanted to pay tribute to a special Confederate. We wanted to find a "local boy who made good." We found such an individual in Lieutenant Robert Davis Powel (Powell) of Rogersville, Tennessee.

More on the history of Lt. Robert D. Powell >

As proud descendants of Confederate soldiers, we strive to follow the charge given to us by Lt. Gen. Stephen D. Lee:

Charge to the Sons of Confederate Veterans

"To you Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication of the cause for which we fought; to your stength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldiers' good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles he loved and which made him glorious and which you also cherish.  Remember, it is your duty to see that the true history of the south is presented to future generations."

Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee, Commander General,
United Confederate Veterans, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1906
