Recapturing History

The 1861 Stars and Stripes and the 1861 Stars and Bars were flown over the Sullivan County Courthouse as part of the Two Flags over Tennessee campaign, intended to raise awareness about the state's key place in Civil War history.

Bristol's Confederate soldier statue needs attention

Commander David Roberts is active in an
effort to restore Bristol's Confederate soldier statue.

The nearly 90-year-old Twin City landmark is deteriorating and needs attention, according to a recently completed assessment.

The Confederate soldier statue near the Bristol train station should be placed beneath some type of covering and possibly moved away from a busy intersection.

Roberts is working with members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy to save the statue.
